With all the controversy surrounding Coney Island and what the future will hold for this New York landmark, the Brooklyn Museum shows Coney Island’s development in this photo exhibition from its heyday through its many ups and downs over the years. Open since 1936, Tom’s Restaurant is more than just a diner. You may have to wait on line to get in, but the waiters are constantly bringing you coffee and other goodies. The food is excellent with an insane breakfast menu and the people treat you like family. One of my favorite bars in Brooklyn, Soda Bar offers inexpensive drinks, great DJs, and the food is very good too. It’s the combination of all these things that’s the draw. Cheryl’s Global Soul takes a more international approach to soul food. With fare like Thai Coconut Curried Mussels and Moroccan Vegetable Tagine, the food here is fresh and inventive.
