Booka Shade: More!
Booka Shade’s release, More! moves quite poetically with its fidelity of popping beats and whirling keys that fit every space auspiciously. Cavorting synthesizers, floor shaking low end drums and the chiming in and out of instrumentation work creatively to hone an album faithful to its electronic roots with just enough foresight that shines. The Berlin duo that is Booka Shade is no stranger to electronic success and that is imperative in their meticulous approach to this album. “Teenage Spaceman” is righteously elegant. The nice pulsing of electrified slices of keys creates a mood that is sonically sad and beatific at the same time. The amazing idea that drips of sound could garner such intense emotion is not easy to design. Ushered through on arms of 90s style pop bass and beats, the resurging sounds of gutsy keys is pulsating, hip and organically awesome. The skips of keys is vibrant and energetic. More! is a thinking person’s album. The wall of ambient sound is delicious and suitable for any atmosphere. “Scaramanga” could easily be played at a club and “L.A.tely” is more buoyant and flirts with a dub reggae vibe. Booka Shade shows their historical domination in the crowded arena of electronic music slaying the listener who is always left wanting to ride the wave one more time.
