The Sacred Triangle: Bowie, Iggy & Lou 1971-1973
(Sexy Intellectual)

On the new DVD The Sacred Triangle: Bowie, Iggy and Lou 1971-1973, Danny Fields, Billy Name, Angela Bowie (David’s ex) and others explain the holy triumvirate co-dependency of friends, co-workers and iconic rock stars Lou Reed, David Bowie and Iggy Pop. Starting all pretty much at the same time, Bowie in London as a folk artist, Reed with the iconic Velvet Underground in NYC and Iggy Pop startling audiences with his antics, blood and peanut butter with The Stooges in Detroit, the three men came together both artistically and physically (there‘s been a lot of conjecture how much these three got together physically) to influence and help each other become the rock gods they are.

There is great footage of all three (Iggy Pop running through a graveyard in an early Warhol film is pretty wild), snippets of all those great songs Bowie wrote under the influence of Reed, Reed wrote and sung under Bowie’s production that became Transfomer and Pop’s meandering seminal punk album Raw Power that Bowie produced. Mainly this DVD is about Bowie; how Reed and Pop influenced him, how he helped produce both his friends into super stardom and how Ziggy Stardust changed the world.  What I liked most about “Triangle” though is that we once again hear about Mick Ronson’s (Bowie’s Spider’s guitarist/arranger/on stage foil) contribution to all this great music, and realize that without Mick a lot of this would never have even happened!
