If you haven’t had the chance to witness progressive R&B duo J*DaVeY on stage yet, you should have been here in New York Tuesday night (April 5th) at SOB’s, as the group rocked it out.

Opening with a cover of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” you sort of had an idea of what to expect for the remainder of the night. Sort of. Miss Jack Davey and Mr. Brooke D’Leau hit the stage with a mixture of electro, R&B, soul, punk, new wave, alternative hip hop and rock that the crowd immediately embraced. Miss Jack Davey even showcased her rhyming skills.

Though the openers, Baltimore rap duo Black Sunn and 810, Harlem emcee Skotch Davis, and hype-man Def Sound made the audience a bit antsy with their sets, J*Davey more than made up for their missteps.

The LA-based duo hit all the right spots with “Quicksand,” “Crawl All Over,” “Slooow,” “Get Together,” and a surprise cameo on “Mama’s Back” and “Mr. Mister” by ?uestlove on drums and super-producer 88-Keys. Closing out the night they gave us a sensual rendition of “Raincheck” from their latest EP, Evil Christian Cop.
