Just in time for summer, Friendly Fires delivers yet another fabulous album that deserves and demands non-stop dancing. This album has more depth due to something that is difficult to put your finger on. It may have something to with the pounding beats, stellar synth riffs, and killer (often disco-like) bass lines. Whatever it is, it will have you dancing to the sweet sounds of longing, unrequited love, and heartbreak.

Pala is a perfect follow-up to Friendly Fires’ (also very awesome) self-titled debut, and is likely to be put on heavy rotation by many fans this summer. Each track melts almost seamlessly into the next and the sound somehow gets bigger as the album progresses.

“Live Those Days Tonight” starts the whole thing off with a burst of energy. Most of the choruses are catchy enough to have you singing along by the second listen. “Running Away” and  “True Love” have the funkiest bass lines. The title track, a stand-out and true slow jam, has a sultry R & B aura and is arguably the sexiest song (vocally and musically) on the entire album.

This time around, Friendly Fires are more vocally adventurous (especially in “Helpless”), musically showing that they are not afraid of a change of pace. And they manage to do it without ever losing their signature high energy. Every listen requires you to turn up the volume and make adequate room for dancing.
