Something is soulfully right about every song Little Dragon crafts. Their new album continues to deliver certified rhythmically righteous grooves, decorated by the engagingly syrupy vocals of lead singer, Yukimi Nagano. Ritual Union is this Swedish band’s third album and whether or not the dance beat fiasco of “Brush the Heat” slays you into a hot and sweaty state or if it is the machine hum and industrial-sized bass beats on the title track, one eventually becomes woefully seduced by stretching harmonies, textured, glimmering pieces of charismatic rhythms made utopic and fun by undulating bass.

Not only audibly enjoyable, Nagano sings in an animated prose where description and detail are as vibrant as the sounds pulsating out of band members Erik Bodin, Fredrik Källgren Wallin, and Rashik Aryal. Nagano sexily croons over top the stiffened rile of “Please Turn,” which unfolds in a heavy kick of bass drum against very mean spirals of sythns. Nagano pleads, “please, pull the string now,” and one cannot help but fumble around looking for the cord. The single, “Ritual Union,” was voted one of Esquire magazine’s “30 Summer Songs Every Man Should Listen To.” If expanded to include the whole world, it still would not be enough. Fun, brilliant and upbeat, fresh, spastic and now, Little Dragon delivers a rare unhinged sound.
