Cold Weather Skincare Tips

It’s so easy to have soft glowing skin during the summer. However getting that same beautiful skin during the fall and winter months is another story completely. By making a few changes to our cold weather skincare we can still have great skin all year round. Here are some tips.

  • Start your week off by using a gentle face exfoliator to get rid of the dead skin cells that build up and cause your skin to look dull and unhealthy. Follow this by applying a face mask made to give you the results that you want and is right for your skin type.
  • Every morning wash your face with a gentle cleanser made for your skin type. When you’re done washing, pat, don’t rub your skin dry because rubbing can aggravate your skin and make it look red. Follow this up by using a moisturizer that is thicker in constancy to give you some extra protection.
  • Oatmeal baths do wonders for dry skin. You can easily buy or make your own oatmeal bath or body scrub at home.
  • It’s important that you use products made specifically with your skin type in mind because if you use the wrong one, your skin can become dry or oily which totally defeats what you’re trying to do. Using the right products during the winter can also help to protect you from cold and free radicals.
  • Taking a warm bath or shower is a surefire way to dry out your skin and strip it of its natural oils. Instead of a hot shower take a short lukewarm shower so that you warm up, clean up and retain  moisture.
  • When applying moisturizer to your body, you’ll get the best possible results if you apply it as soon as you get out of the shower because your pores are open and will soak up the moisturizer.
  • Turn down the heat in your home to a cozy 69 degrees and if you’re still cold, layer on some clothes made from natural fibers such as cotton. This way you’ll feel warm, your skin won’t dry out and you’ll save some money on the heating bill.
  • Using detergents that are free of dyes and perfumes is a good idea if your skin gets especially dry because they usually include drying ingredients in them.
  • In the colder seasons it’s easy to forget to drink water but this is a costly mistake. Our skin needs water to retain moisture and if we’re dehydrated, it will appear to be dry and unhealthy and will also age faster.
  • Skip heavier richer foods during the Winter season like Texas style beef chili and go for the healthier meals so that the nutrients work to make your skin look and feel its best.

The extra care and effort that you take will be worth it when you look in the mirror and love what you see. Good luck!
