With the sound of late 70’s, early 80’s rock and soul that Hall and Oates were known for, Daryl Hall’s new album, Laughing Down Crying, also showcases the work of a talented musician, singer, producer, and songwriter at his best.

For an artist whose heyday was in the 80’s, Hall has consistently kept his music and image relevant by making a string of appearances over the last few years including  Austin’s SXSW festival in 2008 and Tennessee’s Bonnaroo music festival with electro-funk duo Chromeo in 2010. The artist also created Live from Daryl’s House in 2007, which is a web series that brings a variety of artists to his home in upstate New York to just vibe out. The show is now in syndication.

Laughing Down Crying is signature Hall material and includes several pop-rock tunes such as “Talking to You (Is Like Talking To Myself),” “Message to Ya,” and “Get Out Of the Way.” It also includes some Philly soul numbers as well, like “Lifetime of Love,” “Eyes for You (Ain’t No Doubt About It)” and “Problem With You,” which features Hall’s best friend and guitarist T-Bone Burnett. For what it’s worth, you get ten tracks of folk-rock with the requisite dash of blue-eyed soul. What more can you ask for?
