Armed with their signature doubleneck bass/guitar, an arsenal of pedals, an array of percussion and their new album, Transitions (due November 6 on the band’s own Fake Record Label), instrumental power duo El Ten Eleven will headline Bowery Ballroom on Tuesday, October 23 with support from NY’s own Beacon and Michna.

El Ten Eleven’s highly regarded live show is a jaw-dropping display of stellar and inventive musicianship, melodic pop-based song structures and dance-inducing rhythms. Watching the duo build their pulsing, circuitous instrumentals from the ground up is truly a mesmerizing experience and anyone who has ever seen the pair can attest that guitarist/bassist Kristian Dunn and drummer Tim Fogarty are two of the hardest working musicians around. Dunn wields a doubleneck bass/guitar (sometimes playing both simultaneously with different hands) and a fretless bass and loops himself live while he dances on a phalanx of looping and effects pedals. Fogarty pounds his drum kit and electronic drum pads and occasionally loops himself. “As each layer upon layer is set, El Ten Eleven’s songs coalesce into head nodding, cog-spinning music machines,” exclaimed LA Weekly. 

Transitions, the band’s fifth studio album, was recorded and produced by El Ten Eleven and features seven tracks that encapsulate the life-changing events (divorce, marriage, birth, moving to different cities) that have been happening to the pair over the last couple of years. The LP is filled with the band’s trademark guitar trickery, hypnotic looping, shape-shifting tempos, intricate time signatures and pop song structures but also features them experimenting with new sonics, hip-hop drum beats and longer song structures, as evidenced on the title track.
