J. Rocc: Taster’s Choice Vol. 6
Whether it is the homage to the classic Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine” on “Bill Withers” or “Lou Rawls,” a slow grind, slow-paced love song that winds quite sturdy over a nice, yet groove-heavy reggae rhythm or “Universal Music,” a more afrobeat affair, Taster’s Choice Vol. 6, the latest release from famed DJ and turntablist J. Rocc, is quite rich and impressively seamless. “Motown” reworks “Get Ready” by the Temptations while “I Bought This For” electrifies with keys and a break beat rhythm. J. Rocc is an original member of Orange County’s the Beat Junkies, a collective of DJs who have traveled worldwide and won numerous competitions. J. Rocc continues to work mad skills on Tasters Choice Vol. 6 as his craft begins with turntables, it evolves into a new world remaining sonically conducive to cutting or juggling, scratching, trick mixing instrumentation technically and rhythmically by adjusting rhythms and vocals into masterpieces made legendary by his own right. J. Rocc’s unique blend of vintage stock and palpable style smoothly mesmerizes.
