Wax Poetic: On a Ride
Electronic trip hop outfit Wax Poetic returns with their latest, On a Ride, once again via famed Nublu Records.
Started in 1997 by composer and musician Ilhan Ersahin, Wax Poetic is a musical project based out of New York City and is currently comprised of Ersahin on tenor sax and keys, singer/songwriter/guitarist Gabriel Gordon, guitarist Zeke Zima, bassist Jesse Murphy, drummer Jojo Mayer and vocalist Sissy Clemens. Though its previous collections are steeped in electro-jazz movements, On a Ride is more of a moody and dreamlike journey, tapping into the Americana tradition of achingly beautiful storytelling. From the push-and-pull love of “No Escape” to the cinematic feel of “Time Moves On,” On a Ride is literally a journey through the emotional landscape of human relationships.
Wax Poetic collaborations over the years have featured pop singer/pianist Norah Jones as well as The Brand New Heavies’ front woman N’Dea Davenport and spoken word artist Saul Williams. Cameos for On a Ride include singer Natalie Walker and singer-songwriter Jovanotti.
