Water & Guns is his seventh solo album and with it, he has created his own musically lush pop tapestry along with lyrics, like on “River of Lead,†where he sings, “Down this river of lead I roll/Feel it pull me underneath/If the fire don’t kill me, the water will/Feel it pull me underneath/Lay me down to sleep/I pray there’s something left to keep.†“Later On†feels more daunting and foreboding, while the piano run feels like a rainstorm. This very thoughtful release has a whole host of emotions and pop melodies to get lost and found in.
