The Glitch Mob released their long-awaited second album, Love Death Immortality, on February 11th. The LA-based threesome is known for their hard-hitting beats and infusion of guitars, horns and pianos with electronic sounds. In 2010 they released their first album, Death by Sea, which stayed atop the iTunes Electronic chart for many weeks. Love Death Immortality has the goods to follow in these footsteps.

The album was put out by the group’s own label, Glass Air Records. Uninfluenced by outside sources, they holed up for months in the desert of Joshua Tree and created an album to be listened to in its entirety. One song leads into another. Sure the songs can stand alone, but they are much better when heard in order.

Love Death Immortality starts off with an explosion of bass and synths in “Mind of the Beast,” which sets the tone for the rest of the album. The second track, “Our Demons,” includes one of two collaborations with Aja Volkman of Nio Vega, a great pick for vocals by the trio. Volkman later sings on “I Need My Memory Back,” the quintessential dance song.  It’s a tie between these two for best track and both undoubtedly will be played many times in clubs around the nation. “Can’t Kill Us” taps back into the roots of Glitch Mob, reminiscent of 3am sets at Burning Man. The album concludes with a touch of ambient sound in “Beauty of the Unhidden Heart,” featuring vocals by Sister Crayon. It is the perfect conclusion with it’s sweet, we-made-it-through-the-night vibe.

Electronic music fans won’t be disappointed with Love Death Immortality. The group uses a variety of sounds to create a more colorful soundscape than their first album. With that being said, it is a venture into more mainstream music than their previous endeavors. The timing though is perfect, as The Glitch Mob sets out on their largest tour yet this March, including the mecca for Southern California music-lovers and party-goers, Coachella.
