The Foreign Exchange delights on their fifth LP, Tales From the Land of Milk and Honey. The album essentially feels like a fun romp through someone’s house party with requisite house track “Asking for a Friend” and grown folks R&B like “Work It to the Top.” Once a duo, now a quintet, FE includes producers Nicolay and Zo!, singer/co-writer Phonte, and co-lead vocalists Carmen Rodgers and Tamisha Waden. Over its career span, FE has played host to varied artists on their FE Music Imprint, from R&B singers Darien Brockington and Yahzarah (who’s currently on tour as a backing vocalist for Lenny Kravitz) as well as country singer Jeanne Jolly. But what makes Milk and Honey work is up-tempo grooves (“As Fast as You Can”), slowed-down musings on life (“Face In the Reflection”), and simply damn good music (“Body,” “Truce,” and “Until the Dawn”). If you’ve been following FE since its inception, you’ll enjoy the ride through Tales of the Land of Milk and Honey; it’s one of their best albums to date.
