With one self-titled EP under its belt, and now a major-label debut, Brooklyn trio Wet is still quite unassuming. Don’t You is an ethereal, pop/R&B-influenced project full of wispy vocals and songs about breaking up, being alone, and being okay. The group’s lead singer and main songwriter, Kelly Zutrau, holds it down with the emotions, while multi-instrumentalist Joe Valle and guitarist Marty Sulkow tag along for musical support. Though there aren’t any uptempo tracks to dance to (only synth pop, low-fi tunes like “Deadwater” and “Weak”), somehow Zutrau has this ability to connect with us, making us feel her frustrations, feel her hanging up the towel in a dead-end relationship, especially on “Don’t Wanna Be Your Girl.” Lyrics on the track that include, “I don’t wanna be your girl no more/I just wanna see your face at home/You can’t do me right/So I decide that…I don’t wanna be your girl no more.” She’s twenty-something, vulnerable and honest, connecting and letting it all hang out. Respect. Recommended spins include “You’re the Best” and “Body.”
