Producers Rose Desena, Carmine Desena and Peggy Chane once again presented their PIZZA AND PLAYS down at Lucky Jacks Bar and Lounge in the east village (at 129 Orchard St NYC to be exact.) This was my second time attending this evening of short plays (and yummy free pizza after) and once again I was blown over by the troupe of actors as well as the variety of the plays.

Mostly mining a comedic vein, some broad, like Melba Larose’s ‘update’-on-a-classic-tale “Jericho,” and the opener this night “Celebrity” written by Donald Olson, or quieter, two-character sketches like, “Andy Warhol” by Jack Fehlleiten (the best of the night for me)  or the ender, “Theatre People” a two-women hoot-in-and-a-half, really there was something for everytone in what was presented.

The cast here: Joseph Fusco, Frank Gambino Jr. Harrison Cogswell, Sachi Parker, Nikki Hatzidis, Joanna Connolly, David Arther Bachrach, Stephanie Hazard, Sturgis Warner managed double/triple duty at times, slipping in and out of characters as well as clothes in the comfortable downstairs space. This night especially, MC Amanda Hudson was as much introducing plays as starring in some and changing constantly.

Directors Joseph Fusco, Jack Rushton, Peggy Chane also need to be mentioned; they did a fabulous job for this staged reading.

Five bucks to attend, with drinks flowing and well-priced, plus the free pizza meet-and-greet hang after such stellar one-acts, I dare you to find a better deal in the city.
