Sometimes you think you know, but you have no idea. When it comes to Fifth Harmony, I had no idea. Now, I love a great pop record, and I’d heard all the singles, but not enough to be a certified listener. This super group consists of five girls signed by Simon Cowell and LA Reid to the opportunity of a lifetime, and they have consistently built on that brand ever since.

They’ve received a host of awards and sold 7 million digital and 1.6 billion on demand streams, which proves I’m the small percentage who “lost in the sauce,” but not anymore. After getting a chance to listen to their newest, and self-titled album I’m pleasantly pleased. I won’t say surprised because I never underestimate.

“Bridges” is so well-written, the approach melodically is beautiful, and the effort put into it is obvious. “Lonely Night” sounds like a 2017 women’s anthem, and I’m here for it. It’s catchy and in tune with the times. “Messy” is a great cruise joint and earnest in its lyrics. The vocals show the musicality that is often overlooked in pop singing. “Angel” has such a sexy beat and sounds like a great song for any dancer to get down to.”Down” just makes you want to move. It has a dancehall feel that gives it cross over appeal and again an infectious melody. It also features Gucci Mane, who adds even more texture and a touch of a hip-hop element to an already great track. This album is what I expected and keeps me thoroughly entertained. It’s fun, flirty and good soundtrack for a night out on the town.
