Kate Somerville Tanning Towelettes: Convenient Or Just Kitschy?

It may be a summer no-brainer to play it safe and stick to sunless tanning when it comes to achieving that perfect seasonal glow, but deciding on which method of bronzing is best without the sun’s help takes a bit more extra research. After all, you want something that looks natural, applies evenly, stays put, and most importantly, doesn’t rub off on your clothing (gross)! There’s the option of professional spray tans (but those get expensive and therefore difficult to keep up), lotions, oils, and the less reliable sprays and foams, but have you heard of tanning towelettes? Yes, you read that right — skincare maven Kate Somerville has her very own line of Tanning Towlettes, designed especially to deliver concentrated, uniform color. It’s certainly a unique idea, but the question is — are you brave enough to take them for a test tan?

The tanning towelettes, which come in a pack of 8 for $48 (or, with a Sephora.com exclusive, you can buy them separately for $6 each), are a bit on the pricey side if we’re just experimenting, though the product does have excellent reviews so far! It boasts “effortless,” natural color with a single application, but you could also choose to deepen the color with continued use over the course of a couple days. But be careful — don’t over-tan unwittingly; the color is said to take a few hours to develop, so make sure you remember where you’ve already applied, and let the color reveal itself before you let yourself get too bronzing-happy!
