Over the past few years, a flurry of female artists have been demonstrating that they have the talent and creativity to come up with rich, nuanced solo projects that sound like they could be full bands. Cameron Mesirow joins the ranks under the pseudonym Glasser, with her debut album, Ring. This album is impressive and adventurous, fitting for fans who like electronica and synth-based music overlaid by gorgeous female vocals along the lines of Bat For Lashes or Fever Ray.

Glasser’s music is filled with drums and other intriguing percussion instruments, keeping a consistent rhythm, while other instruments form a dreamy layer. Almost everything sounds as though it has some element submerged in water, making it seem distant without going so far as to be otherworldly. A certain warmth radiates through the album, almost like a soak in a comfortable bath. “Glad” is a particularly engaging track, employing slow strings and keys to sound like a strange mix between American and Oriental folk.

Whatever genres Mesirow decides to tap into, the music she makes as Glasser is to be experienced, rather than simply listened to. Hold your breath as long as you can while taking in this one.
