While last season’s glitzy embossed totes and satchels hinted at more shimmer and shine to come, the sequined bag trend that has arrived packs even more “wow” power than a sparkle-loving shopping like me had anticipated! I love sequins, but even as a girl who’s not afraid of a whole lot of glimmer, I’m usually not a huge fan of pieces that are all-over sparkle — sequined blazers, shorts, pants, etc. Instead, I’m normally more partial to sparkly details, but for a change, I am loving the all-over sequined bags that are taking over the handbag departments one brand at a time! Since it’s an accessory, rather than a fundamental part of your outfit (not like your bag isn’t just as important!), I’m all for taking a risk and going all-out shimmer, as long as the rest of your outfit is decidedly more subdued! For example, I love how the sequins give this otherwise simple-looking Alice + Olivia hobo a sexy molten metal look, and the light-reflective gold sequins on this Coach Poppy backpack give a playfulness to the normally “scholarly” shape. For a little added texture, I love the rectangular sequins on this Kate Spade ‘Amanda’ bag, which give it a little extra movement, and the contrasting sequined striped on this Ipa-Nima bucket tote are eye-catching in a stunning way!
