Rising British band Breton will be returning to New York for a headline show at Bowery Ballroom on Thursday, September 6. The UK audio/visual collective is touring in support of their acclaimed debut LP, Other People’s Problems, which was released in April on FatCat Records. On the strength of their record, enthralling live show, and gripping videos, Breton have quickly catapulted from a cult favorite to an internationally renowned act that has been dubbed one of Britain’s most exciting bands. The fivesome’s debut – a glorious collision of post-punk, dubstep, grimey electro, indie rock, dance punk and hip-hop that has received comparisons to Massive Attack, Bloc Party, Tricky, Foals, Portishead, James Blake and Tom Vek – has received glowing press from both sides of the pond including Interview, Nylon, NME, Q, Mojo, XLR8R, BBC Music and eMusic who called the album “a joyful rummage through the past 20 years of electronic music.” Testament to the band’s far-reaching appeal to both the electronic and rock worlds, Alternative Press declared: “Easily one of the best debuts of 2012-or 2022, for that matter,” while Complex recently included the record in their “Top 50 Best Albums of 2012 (So Far)” feature.

For this collective of filmmakers and musicians the two mediums of visual and audio are utterly integrated and of equal importance. Breton live is an intense, hypnotic experience as the band perform to a backdrop of their self shot films and graphics – mixed in real time by their VJ in a synergy of sound, timing, rhythm and visuals.

Breton – “Edward the Confessor

Since South London-based Breton returned home following their spring support tour in North America with We Were Promised Jetpacks, the art-pop provocateurs have been touring non-stop, spreading their postmodern post-punk and electro gospel all across the UK and Europe with a slew of kinetic multimedia performances on the festival circuit as well as sold out headline shows. Following support slots with Hot Chip and Franz Ferdinand, Breton will return to North America next week for their first headline tour. Earlier this month, they played in France at La Route du Rock Festival in a castle with The XX. It was easily a career highlight.
