Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate

For the apothecary skincare line, Kiehl’s relies on an ingredient called squalane in many of its formulations. Squalane isn’t a new sushi trend, but rather a naturally occurring moisturizer. Neither was it absent in Kiehl’s newest product called Midnight Recovery Concentrate ($42, 1 oz.). This lightweight, 99% natural nighttime treatment attempts to restore, repair, replenish, regenerate, and recover the skin’s natural appearance… overnight. The key ingredients include evening primrose, lavender essential oil, and of course, squalane. The elixir is applied nightly with 2-3 drops on clean with patting motions. Kiehl’s has been around since 1851 starting in the East Village (owned by L’Oreal since 2000) and they make great claims when it comes to their products. While the Midnight Recovery Concentrate hydrated my skin with a supple feel, I didn’t notice changes in the quality or appearance of my complexion with my ten day supply, whereas the company’s test results show improvement after four weeks of use. Kiehl’s strength is in its transparence of product information and ingredients along with decent cleansers and an amazing lip balm. The drawback is the size: price ration of their preventative skincare as seen with their promising elixirs.
