Rich Collins, Scott Durbin, Dave Poche, Scott “Smitty” Smith are Imagination Movers, a Disney Channel/Emmy-award-winning quartet, who have played at the White House and for millions across the world. This 13-song self-titled collection features lots of great playing, sometimes not-so-great-lyrics, but lots of fun to be sure.

“Is That Wrong” positively rocks with a heavy bass thrumming and wailing snare. “Sunday Morning Song” is a sweet snare trilling/guitar picking ballad, probably the best use of the boys’ harmonies across all these tunes. And “Game On,” which starts with a ping pong game sound, is another 60’s-like-tune with layered vocals, another example of how well produced these guys are, how well they play and sing.

I like the bleeping synths of “Kindergarten Graduation,” and the whole concoction ends with “#fuzzylittlecat.” To be sure, in this instance, keeping the lyrics to one simple idea does indeed work, as the song doesn’t try to be anything more than an instance of silliness.

Imagination Movers is an upscale kids’ song production every step of the way, with obviously lots of the big corporate machine behind them, influencing in just the right quarters and mining a specific genre of music not many thrive in. I just think the lyrics, beyond silly ones like “#fuzzylittlecat,” could have had a little more meat on the bone.
