You could easily go insane for Taylor James’ cool little gems-of-tunes, masterful singing and tight danceable productions on his new album, Insane.

Alien Country: Like My Life Depends On It

Alien Country: Like My Life Depends On It

Alien Country’s Like My Life Depends On It is best when it rocks, and rock it does after lifting from some country stabs at the beginning half of the album.

Diamonds and Whiskey: Dark Country Voodoo

Diamonds and Whiskey: Dark Country Voodoo

“Sugar Stick,” the last tune of these eleven, is the obvious single, though most of song on Dark Country Voodoo are commercial country roots rock stuff (in a very good way). But the straight ahead beat and Bury’s slamming guitar rattles round Webb at her most enticing. Once again the players place Martin’s violin in just the right spot and this last tune, more than any other I feel, impresses the listener to how unique Diamonds and Whiskey are.

Eric Anders and Mark O’Bitz: Of All These Things

It’s the tunes with drums here that I take to best and also see Eric exploring his fine voice to its very best. “High to Low,” one of these, a later tune on Of All These Things, is probably the best for me here.

Gideon King & City Blog: Upscale Madhouse

Gideon King & City Blog: Upscale Madhouse

Really, there isn’t a bad tune in this bunch, the songwriting is masterful, lyrics sublime and the musicianship a high water mark to be sure. Gideon King & City Blog’s Upscale Madhouse is a cool New York record, that pulls out all the stops.
