On the very edge of Alphabet City, on the rising wave of enthusiasm for Pan-Latin cuisine, and at the cusp of the hard-to-beat NYC summer heat comes the young, cool, and flavorful Yerba Buena Cocina Latina.

Merging flavors from Cuba, Peru, Chile, Mexico and Argentina, and some boldly-blended, frosty drinks from mixologist Artemio Vasquez, Yerba Buena comes packed with the ingredients to delight the palette.

We tried the brunch and enjoyed the calm, cooling environment at Yerba, dimly lit with white, faux-ostrich seating for a Miami feel. Relaxing with Margarita in hand we lazily made our menu picks, which came rapidly and with a smile from Manager Giovanni.

The no-fail choices here were the chunky Guacamole ($9), which packs a delicious punch with chipotle and queso fresco- and the perfectly-portioned Tacos de Pescado ($12) is my winning menu-pick, served with a piping-hot, but perfectly-cooked side of rice and beans. Absolutely delicious.

Yerba Buena is certainly the best new hot spot on Avenue A for an excellent Café con Leche, Huevos Rancheros and $12 unlimited stiff-cocktail special- if it’s that kind of morning. And in the East Village, isn’t it always? Two Thumbs Up (because it would be weird to have 3).
