Many makeup lines promote their products for day and evening wear. Illamasqua is the premier line to present night time makeup. The company’s maxim is “makeup for your alter ego.†They offer striking, counter culture make up that is worthy of runway and editorial, but user-friendly to the public. Illamasqua is a British brand created by Alex Box and was launched in November 2008. It is available at Sephora in the United States. The palettes are bold, daring, and vibrant. We tried their nail varnishes, which retail for $14. They offer 22 colors with names like Harsh, Phallic and Collide. The Illamasqua nail varnish line is the finest, most chip resistant nail polish I have ever used. I used the colors for my weekly manicure and pedicure, and there wasn’t a single chip the entire week. My nail tech was astounded that after two weeks, the color was still in tact and smooth. Even as the price point may seem high for nail polish, it is worth the initial investment for extended wear, thus reducing the frequency for reapplication. I enjoyed the ornate color palette and I hope to see a broader range of muted daytime colors.
