Dangerous Curves Ahead: Burlesque on the Go-Go @ Parkside Lounge, 5/12/10
This spring is proving to be a hot one, and it’s not because of global warming. Traveling cross country are five of New York City’s tantalizing burlesque performers showcasing more curves than a highway at a stage near you. Kicking off their first tour Dangerous Curves Ahead: Burlesque on the Go-Go, Clams Casino, Darlinda Just Darlinda, Anita Cookie, Minnie Tonka, and GiGi La Femme said adios to New York City on the evening of May 12th at Manhattan’s Parkside Lounge, home of late night trivia and cheap booze. Behind ruby red curtains, patrons were able to sit with a martini in hand and even mingle with other veteran tassel twirlers. However, it was the night of comedy and skin that left audiences cheering for more tease to please.
Only in New York can you sneak your way inside a dive bar and leave with heart palpitations. Kicking off Dangerous Curves Ahead was Cookie, a lush Dorothy who happily snorted and stripped for Toto. La Femme shook things up with signature routines, including her Star Wars tribute “Princess Leia,” fogging up the glasses of every nerd in town. Darlinda, whose moneymakers twirled faster than hummingbirds, gave some unsuspecting viewers a taste of her talent, while Tonka made drag look fab and even invited guests to a party…in her pants. Dangerous Curves Ahead wouldn’t be complete without Casino, bumping and grinding her way with telephone cords wrapped around her body. It was a sexy spectacle to watch and she managed to wiggle her way out of the trap, giving everyone an eyeful of her award-winning assets.
If you were one of the few to miss Dangerous Curves Ahead, the ladies are currently on the road. Feeling daring? Then leave behind the city for a thrill you won’t soon forget. However, imagine the welcome they’ll give to New Yorkers when they return in time for summer.
