For those regular readers of this column and the many others of you out there who have a passing interesting in adult toys, I am sure you might have come across a Fleshlight a time or two in your explorations. Sporting an inner sleeve molded as anus, vulva or mouth orifices of famous adult stars, each Fleshlight is housed in what is ostensibly a large flashlight.
Recently, Fleshlight tagged none other than the renaissance Asian BBW adult star Kelly Shibari to ‘represent’ them. The fetching Miss Shibari, who is as much porn star as she is a social media icon, marketing guru for herself and others, writer and regular on the convention circuit is the first ever ‘larger lady’ to have her parts immortalized in a Fleshlight and I had the pleasure to speak to her about it.
So you are the first BBW with a Fleshlight. That’s quite the honor, huh?
Absolutely! I’m totally stoked. The hardest part was keeping quiet – I’ve known about it since January, when I was asked during the AVN convention in Las Vegas.
How does one get approached or do you solicit Fleshlight with a burning need to have a model made of your nether regions?
“Hey, lady, wanna get your vagina immortalized?”…haha! Nothing like that, obviously. I suppose models can solicit Fleshlight, or get their fans to convince Fleshlight to make a mold of their favorite performer, but ultimately, it’s Fleshlight’s decision. I didn’t know that they were considering making a product for the plus-size market, much less me, so I was genuinely surprised and definitely honored to have been asked. They asked me to take a lunch meeting and went over the pros and cons of trying a BBW Fleshlight and when they asked if I would be interested in being their first BBW Fleshlight Girl I don’t think I let them finish their sentence when I said, “Yes!”
How was that process? We see some of it on the website in the making-of video.
It was all very fast. I flew out to their offices the week after AVN and was molded right away! There was a day of molding – they did the vagina/vulva, which is available now, but also molded my butt and mouth as well in case those products become available at a future date. The next day, we did all the promo photos and videos, and then I was flying home.
Do you think this will open the door to women of different body types?
I hope so! So much really does ride on the success of this product. It’s not just a selfish ‘I want mine to sell like hotcakes,’ thing – although that would definitely be nice-but if this product does well, then it means that other companies would be open to having BBW sex toys that aren’t gag gifts or the butt of a joke.
It generally seems-to me at least-that the BBW is a fully accepted ‘type’ in porn, in fashion, in media across the board…or am I just naive seeing as I like full-figured women?
I think we have a long way to go towards the “mainstreaming” of BBWs in entertainment. Yes, we see a few in music, in fashion, and definitely in porn, but until we are seen as less of a comedic role or novelty act, when we can start seeing the achievements of entertainers regardless of size, and honor the merits that extend beyond size, that’ll be when I consider it “accepted.” Celebrating diversity and making it a positive thing sexually means that we can become more comfortable in not only our own skin but in the choices we make. There would be less peer pressure to pretend to like a certain size when in reality you like a partner with a build that might not be “socially acceptable” right now.
Are you touring for the product, making appearances at conventions?
I’m expected, of course, to promote my Fleshlight and both the brands of Fleshlight as well as Kelly Shibari wherever I can. Some of those are appearances I arrange on my own; some are Fleshlight events. My first public appearance as a Fleshlight Girl will be at the BBWFanFest in Vegas, July 13-15. I’ll have a few Fleshlights for fans to purchase directly from me, and of course I’ll be available for photos and signings while I’m at the Fleshlight booth.
