“Lip butter” was how this product was depicted to me. It sounded more like a crass, high school locker room term. On the contrary, it pertained to Darphin Paris who recently launched an aromatic, plant-derived lip balm called Age Defying Lip Balm. In 2003, cosmetics giant Estee Lauder acquired the French brand, but Lauder’s tangible influence has yet to have an effect on Darphin’s products. The lip balm retails for $40 and contains many of the same ingredients in standard lip balms such as waxes and oils. The lip balm comes in a small, finger applicable pot. The product is smooth and ultra emollient due to the virgin oils and mango butter extracts. These ingredients offer fast, vital moisture to dry lips. Darphin products are also aromatic with notes of cedar, orange, and Gaia wood. The ingredients are 99% natural. The lip balm is targeted to consumers with visibly fine lines on the lips. The general result is a non-sticky, non-glossy sating matte finish. As glamorous as glossy lips may be, sometimes it’s refreshing to go understated – like with Age Defying Lip Balm – rather than have an oil spill across your lips.
