From its humble beginnings as a damn-fine coffee shop in Puntaverda (Greenpoint), Cafecito Bogotã has matured over the past year and a half into NYC’s first Colombian Arepa, Wine and Espresso Café. Earthy, romantic, friendly and unmistakably South American, the café offers a large collection of native wines, delicious mounted arepas, Spanish tapas, and awesome Balthazaar sandwiches.

I had stopped in to Cafecito Bogotã about a year ago while apartment hunting in Greenpoint and had what I declared to be the best cup of coffee in Brooklyn- bold but not bitter, smooth, hot and fully satisfying if you love good coffee. Upon a recent poll of some neighborhood friends, I got turned on to Cafecito Bogotã’s new, exclusive, Recession Brunch, and I will tell you that I was completely floored.

Try the Cartegena Eggs, with perfectly prepared eggs scrambled with scallion, cilantro and marinated shrimp, piled high on a yummy arepa. Another winning pick is the savory Ilanera arepa topped with carmelized chunks of lean beef, onions and chimichurri sauce with an avocado hat. Go for the White ¡Sangria Tropical! comprised of the freshest chopped fruit, the smoothest white wine and delicious passion fruit, mango or orange juices of the day- and it comes complimentary with your meal.

You will not order the Eggs Benedict.

The Recession Exclusive Brunch at Cafecito Bogotã will run you $10.95 +tax/tip. They also offer the Recession Arepa Select ™ Brunch, which includes the Mounted Arepas at $12.95 +tax/tip.
