Friday November 20

Location: Union Square, NYC
Bands: Devo Get Tickets Here
Show time: 9 PM
Venue: The Fillmore at Irving Plaza
Food: Momofuku
Drink: The Village Pourhouse
Miscellaneous: Sundaes and Cones

Celebrating their 35th anniversary and the reissue of two of their best albums, Devo will perform their landmark album Q: Are We Not Men? in its entirety tonight and Freedom of Choice tomorrow night. If you like ramen noodles and pork, then Momofuku is your spot for food. The Berkshire pork is the best I’ve had and it’s the only place I’ll eat pork period, which should tell you just how good Momofuku really is! The Village Pourhouse looks like a neighborhood bar to watch sports, but it actually has three more rooms, where you can order food or find a quiet place to smooch! For dessert a little left of the dial, Sundaes and Cones offers eclectic flavors like wasabi and corn and many more flavors that are familiar.

Friday November 20

Location: Midtown West, NYC
Bands: Ray Davies Get Tickets Here
Show time: 8 PM
Venue: Town Hall
Food: Sullivan Street Bakery
Drink: Rudy’s Bar & Grill
Miscellaneous: The Shops at Columbus Circle

Everyone’s favorite Kink, Ray Davies returns with a new album The Kinks Choral Collection where he and a group of chorus singers reinterpret Kinks songs. Arguably one of the top bread makers on the east coast, and good to get gourmet pizza’s and sandwiches, Sullivan Street Bakery makes exquisite food using ingredients you’d see on the Food Network! More bar than grill, Rudy’s Bar & Grill is like going back to college, minus the books. The beer is cheap and by “grill,” they mean free popcorn and hot dogs. If you have trouble finding the bar, just look for the 6 foot tall fiberglass pig standing outside! To get out of the cold and see what an upper-class mall is like, stop by The Shops at Columbus Circle. Expensive restaurants like MASA and shops like Williams Sonoma are fun to browse through to see how the other half lives.

Saturday November 21

Location: Midtown West, NYC
Bands: Sonic Youth + Dinosaur Jr. Get Tickets Here
Show time: 7 PM
Venue: Terminal 5
Food: Eatery
Drink: Valhalla
Miscellaneous: Central Park

My initial reaction to this show was “What is this 1992?” But man, both Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr. bring back great memories of my youth. Do either band still measure up to their prime? Who cares. They both still have that free-wheeling punk spirit that made their music so special to their fans. Nearby and delicious, Eatery offers a new American menu that’s asian influenced. Try the Red Curry Chicken Breast over roti pancake, with baby carrots and red curry coconut sauce ($16.95). Valhalla’s minimalist space is chill, letting the 24 brands of beer from all over the world on tap be the main attraction at this bar. While its warm out, waste a little time walking through Central Park, relax, and get out of the hustle and bustle of the city. Just watch your step. The working horses tend to leave surprises behind them!

Saturday November 21

Location: West Village, NYC
Bands: Little Dragon
Show time: 11 PM
Venue: (le) poisson rouge
Food: Blue Ribbon Downing Street Bar
Drink: Village Tavern
Accessory: Bleeker Bob’s

Swedish songsmiths Little Dragon mix electronic with a bit of jazz and a nice dose of rock to make some aural music. Joining them are Re:Redux (feat. Didi & Aaron from Brazilian Girls),Crystal Fighters, and DJ Scribe (I Love Vinyl/Raw Fusion). For an eclectic menu that mixes upscale and down-home food, Blue Ribbon Downing Street Bar, a wine bar and restaurant, offers lighter fare including foie gras, cheese plates, caviar, and steak tartare. The Village Tavern is a really comfortable neighborhood bar that’s great for catching sports games or just chilling for a drink, which is what I prefer to do when I’m in the vicinity. Also in the area is Bleeker Bob’s . It’s one of the oldest independent record stores in NYC and the selection is deep. The place looks a mess, but the staff is surprisingly friendly and extremely knowledgeable about what they have.

Sunday November 22

Location: Lower East Side, NYC
Bands: Camera Obscura + Papercuts Get Tickets Here
Show time: 8 PM
Venue: Music Hall of Williamsburg
Food: Dumont Burger
Drink: Radegast Hall & Biergarten
Miscellaneous: Verb Cafe

Who can resist Camera Obscura and their 60s British and girl group sound, especially on their new album My Maudlin Career? Papercuts who make sweet sounding 60s big beat music mixed with light electronics put out one of my favorite albums of the year in You Can Have What You Want and from what I hear, have a new single coming out shortly. Why would you miss two great bands play live? Why? With one of the best burgers in Williamsburg, Dumont Burger offers theirs with gourmet toppings, sandwiches, salads, and their amazing mac & cheese. So you consider yourself a beer connoisseur and like to party. You can do all that and eat at Radegast Hall & Biergarten. The Austrian/German menu perfectly compliments the 12 beers on tap and more than 30 German and Austrian bottles at this large beer hall. One of the oldest and best hipster hangout coffee shops, The Verb Cafe offers up excellent coffee and baked goods, a boho vibe, and big windows to watch the days pass while collecting unemployment!
