It isn’t often that American design captures my attention as it tends to be “safe.†Not long ago, I came across a metal bag which sent me on a path that ultimately led me to the notorious handbags of James Piatt. His work is primarily in industrial and product design, which has garnered him several awards. We caught up with the designer in California and asked a few questions.

If you could come back as an object, what would it be? A hammer.
If you could have someone else’s house, whose would it be? Rudolf Schindler’s old home in Hollywood.
Who are your fantasy lunch guests? Milla Jovovich, Captain Beefheart, and Master Shake.
Favorite place to have a drink? The Green Mill in Chicago.

What current trend would you like to see disappear? The f*cking cardigan sweater for guys.
