The Canadian Front film exhibition kicked off this past Wednesday at the MoMA. The exhibition showcases eight new Canadian films, beginning with Crackie. First-time Director Sherry White’s Crackie is a drama that follows the story of Mitsy, a teenage girl who is about as socially competent as Napolean Dynamite, but that’s probably due to Mitsy’s backwards upbringing by her grandma. The girl gets a dog, and like all good dogs, he doesn’t solve a damned thing. Poor Mitsy has a host of issues to work through, and it’s almost unbearable at times to watch her struggle through her journey.
Who to take: Bring whoever you saw Precious and The Blind Side with.
You’ll like it if: You have a heart, if you enjoy watching Intervention, Hoarders or any other TV show that centers on someone’s unfortunate lot in life, or you like being emotionally stirred.
Crackie will be showing at 5:30 PM on Saturday, March 20

Another Canadian flick to make the cut is Suck. This film is a sort of rock n’ roll musical comedy about vampires directed by Phil the Alien Director Rob Stefaniuk. Stefaniuk plays the lead singer of The Winners, the Canadian rock band the film focuses on. It also stars Jessica Paré, who appears in this month’s new release Hot Tub Time Machine. Paré plays the bass-player who gets bitten, becomes a vampire and, once she becomes undead, naturally increases her fan base. Alice Cooper plays a bartender/savant, and his daughter, Calico Cooper, plays the waitress. Several rock hero cameos make the film. It’s fun to watch and test your rock-knowledge by seeing who you can spot.
Who to take: Bring your stoner friends, your rocker girlfriend or anyone who appreciates a B-rated horror comedy.
You’ll like it if: You don’t take it too seriously, if you liked Cannibal! The Musical or if you just can’t get enough Alice Cooper in your life.
Suck will be showing at 7:00 PM on Monday, March 22

Film Admission is $10 for adults and $6 for full-time students with current I.D. The cost of the film ticket may be applied toward the price of a Museum admission ticket. For more information, go to www.moma.org
