Michael Kors defies any notion of being spread “too thin,†as he has proven his success in conquering the realms of clothing, jewelry, handbags, shoes and accessories without the slightest sacrifice of quality. Exhibit A: his latest fragrance, Very Hollywood Michael Kors Sparkling Eau de Toilette. Inspired by young Hollywood, Mr. Kors suggests that this perfume is to serve as a “tribute to old Hollywood glamour†yet “evokes the budding ingénue of young Hollywood as she takes her first steps onto the red carpet.†Perhaps, but those of us without so many red carpet bookings in the near future can still partake in this wonderfully accessible scent comprised of sweet tones of citrus, mandarin, black currant and neroli. I’m not quite sure what mandarin or neroli is, but I can say they certainly are delicious to smell.
Without cheating, that is, before reading the press, I guessed that the sweet, but not candy-sweet Very Hollywood might have possessed hints of coconut; alas, I do not have a very sophisticated nose for perfume. That said, I do have a strong appreciation for perfumes that are enticing and reminiscent of the fresh, sweet beginning of spring. That, and when I tried it on I found myself embarrassingly sniffing at my wrists in public. So, although Mr. Kors may suggest this product is one for young Hollywood, inspired by old, and meant for red carpet debuts, enjoying this scent so much as to invoke embarrassing public appearances is certainly one of the last things I’d want to be caught doing on a red carpet. Good thing I’m not a celebrity, and an better thing is that this perfume is available to the general non-red-carpet-attending public at large. It is truly delightful.
