With his smooth, upper-range vocals, Mike Posner sounds akin to Justin Timberlake— that is if JT didn’t have Timbaland as a producer. This is not to say, however, that the 22-year-old’s debut album, 31 Minutes to Takeoff, is lacking in any way.  Quite the contrary, as the album is everything that an electro-pop album should be: danceable, accessible and fun.  The singer/songwriter/producer showcases a youthful swag and solid production on his first full-length project.

31 Minutes features a lot of talk of hipsterisms, cheating girlfriends, confidence in the bedroom (“I ain’t even gotta say shit / to make you feel alright”) and naturally, figuring out a way to balance it all. Nevertheless, it’s still a fun album to sync to the iPod.

I would highly recommend checking out “Cooler Than Me,” “Bow Chicka Wow Wow,” and the head-bobbing number “Déjà Vu,” which features the singers from Boyz II Men.
