If you love to dance and have no shame about it, The Pimps of Joytime are just what you’ve been waiting for. A mixture of funk, soul, afrobeat, salsa and hip hop, the Brooklyn-based outfit is fast-becoming a hit, locally and nationally, with their multi-layered live sets.

Following late-night hip hop karaoke at Brooklyn Bowl, the four-year old band jumped right in on the sassy, Latin-flavored ditty “Blues Wit You” (from the forthcoming Janxta Funk). Since dancing and having a good time is the objective of the band, even if one can’t salsa it really does not matter. Effort is the key. And judging by a packed house on a lovely Friday night, young and old can take a crack at it.

Performing a bit of new and some seasoned tracks including “Pimpin Music,” a swagger-infused number, the fun “Bonita,” as well as the psychedelic “San Francisco Bound” and the title track from the upcoming album; The Pimps of Joytime are definitely a band to continue to watch in the new year.

Janxta Funk is due early 2011.
