While the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 may not have the indie set flocking to the theaters, the soundtrack that goes along with it is sure to please even the most high-brow of musical preferences.

With tracks from the likes of The Joy Formidable and Theophilius London, the compilation well represents the film’s attempt at poignancy and its penchant for the overly dramatic. Many of the songs are heart-felt and, while most of the artists featured are probably relatively unknown to the film’s target audience, the album does have two tracks by radio favorite Bruno Mars.

One song with particular prominence is “Flightless Bird, American Mouth.” Written and performed by folk’s wunderkind, Iron & Wine, this track was specifically rerecorded to accompany one of the most-anticipated scenes in the film: Bella and Edward’s wedding.  The other most-anticipated scene—the honeymoon—is accompanied by “Turning Page” by Sleeping at Last (something that is all-but-guaranteed to ensure permanent prominence on the iPods of Twi-Hards everywhere).

From beginning to end, the soundtrack is engaging and perhaps better put together than the film it accompanies.
