It’s no secret that statement-making eyes have been quite the runway staple for many designer collections these days – after all, what better way to make your models really stand out without distracting from the garments themselves? Backstage at Roberto Cavalli, things were getting a little extra high-fashion when it came to playing up the eye makeup, as Pat McGrath used a custom blend of peacock and insect-inspired shades like jade, purple, and gold for an innovative take on the smoky eye. Believe it or not, you can get the bug-eyed look yourself (and I mean that in a fabulous way, of course) by accenting your regular smoky shadow with some key animal-inspired colors. First, be sure to have a great yellow-gold shadow to serve as a highlighter for the inner corners of your eyes (and your brow bone, too, if you’re feeling adventurous), then use a bold purple or plum shade in your outer corners. Top off with a shimmery forest green or deep teal in the center of your eye, so you’re left with a cool ombre effect. Don’t forget to blend, and tie it all together with a healthy dose of black liner, and you’ve got yourself an innovative night-out smoky look that’s definitely not for the color-shy!
