Technology has advanced the war on acne with products like direct UV zapping. Nevertheless, topical creams still remain the most widespread. La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo ($37, 1.35oz) has won beauty industry “best of” awards since 2010. The oil free cream targets and reduces acne blemishes while micro exfoliating skin to reveal brighter, bacteria free skin. The product contains a high concentrate of 5.5% benzoyl peroxide, which can irritate extra sensitive skin, and it can wipe out acne in a matter of days The white cream is fragrance free and when applied to skin, it dries clearly. The box states it can be used as a makeup base, but I’m not sure I want a peeling agent that strong as a primer. Maybe they meant to say “safe to use under makeup.” There is a small amount of sting upon application but after a few days, this sensation goes away. La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo is an effective product for people with serious acne concerns. It works quickly and even has some anti-aging benefits, too.
