THE SEX FILES: Violet Ivy discusses the escort and dominatrix business

Violet IvyAs the international man of mystery I am (or at least fantasize being) you know I try to keep us all hip to what’s going on around the globe when it comes to sex. I ‘met’ Violet Ivy recently, an honest-to-goodness courtesan, working in her native Australia, where prostitution is legal. From growing up on a small wheat and sheep farm in the outback of Western Australia, this woman has transformed herself into one of the world’s most elite, international escorts.  Encouragement from friends and family prompted the ever inventive and super smart lady to share her adventures, as she has done so and continues to in a series of books exposing the realities behind the veil of the oldest profession in the world. Here’s what she had to say about her work as an escort and as an author.

Hailing from the U.S. as I do, where pretty much escorts/prostitution is illegal almost everywhere, can you explain the legalities of escorting in Australia.

The laws vary from state to state in Australia. Call it legal, decriminalized or under containment, it basically means that as long as we observe the legal model under which our individual state legislate we can legally offer sexual services for money. We cannot stand on a street corner and shout out to cars our sexual services. We cannot hand out business cards at the casino/pub or any other place; this is known as soliciting. But we can and use a website, phone book, magazine or newspaper advertising. I am registered as a sex worker with the police; they ask for full name, address, date of birth, email address and phone number that I use in my advertising. The Business Licensing Authority is the government body which assigns each brothel, escort agency or private worker an individual SWA number. That’s a sex worker association number which must appear in all of my advertising. I also must have regular sexual health (STD) medical checkups. I must use a condom for sex, it is illegal for a client to ask for or any worker to offer unsafe sex.

And do the police actually get involved to come to you or even a customer’s aid when needed?

Yes, if a client or the girl has a bad experience worthy of calling the police. Either can without fear of recrimination. The police will treat them both as normal citizens. That takes a lot of the stress and trepidation out of sex work.

Following from this, though something might be permissible by law, what don’t you allow personally…or are just simply not into?

I do not allow unsafe sex, cum on face or in mouth or anal.

Tell us about the writing. Seems like you’re making lots of headway with it.

My first book Lucky Girl – How I Survived the Sex Industry tells my story, how I grew up and got here. It includes many unusual, scary and bizarre scenarios I’ve been exposed to and some incredible people I’ve met along the way. In my second book Sex and Sexuality – The Interviews  I candidly talk to some of my friends and friends of friends who are out of the mainstream for their take on sex and sexuality. There are 21 interviewees, from a transgender B&D mistress to a bisexual girl who works on phone sex lines, to a homeless woman who swaps sex for a meal or somewhere to sleep, (that was really sad). Book three, Cougar is another interview book featuring both the mature ladies, (the cougars), and their young men, (the cubs). It’s due for release January 2014. And currently I’m working on a ‘How To’ book, with advice gained from many years dealing with varied sexual encounters…which led to the Q&A column on my website. And then there is the follow-up to Lucky Girl. Hopefully it will be out soon as well.

You’re also a professional Dominatrix. Do the customers meet with escorts and Dominatrix or do you keep the two separate, even if a client is wanting to see you for each at separate times?

It all depends on the individual case. If a guy wants a sexual service but likes to be spanked as well, I will treat it as part of a ‘normal’ booking, if I can use that term. However if what he wants is the whole dungeon experience he can expect to see me in full leather or latex; that’s a non-sexual service unless by chance I choose to pleasure myself on him. As you can see it’s all about attitude both of the Mistress and the client/submissive. When I put my latex on I BECOME a Mistress. My deportment and attitude change markedly. They need to. I also need to get into the right head space to perform the session. It’s what the client expects, needs and is paying for. There are few women who offer both services, but also some division with those who don’t.

If you had one bit of advice for bettering our sexual lives, what would it be?

Only one? How about don’t ever force your partner to do anything he or she is not comfortable with but on the other hand be open to experimentation, especially if you’ve been with the same lover for quite a while. Spice it up. Try some hot oil massage, a new sex toy or inviting a third ‘friend’ to join you. Every couple has individual desires and limitations. If it feels comfortable for both parties then why not? Life is short. Every orgasm you don’t have is one you never get back!
