Kate Somerville Oil Free Moisturizer and Clarifying Cleanser
Kate Somerville is a big deal in the L.A. cosmetic and skin care scene. After continually seeing her name, I was inspired to try two of her best sellers: Kate Somerville Oil Free Moisturizer and Kate Somerville Purify Clarifying Cleanser. Both are straightforward products without fuss at a mid range price point.
Kate Somerville Moisturizer ($65, 1.7 oz.) is a lightweight, oil free lotion. It has sea based ingredients, but lacks SPF or antioxidants. It absorbs quickly without leaving you greasy; considering how hydrating it feels. The moisturizer comes in an airless jar with a pump that dispenses product through the top of the container, which was a bit awkward. Using it twice daily, it left my skin more smooth and hydrated, and allowed for even makeup application. By and large, Kate Somerville Oil Free Moisturizer is an uncomplicated moisturizer without any special effects.
Kate Somerville Purify Clarifying Cleanser ($32, 4 oz.) is a foaming, cream cleanser that effectively washes away daily grime and stubborn makeup. The cleanser contains citrus, menthol, salicylic acid, eucalyptus, and lavender. For some skin, those can be irritants and for others, it can be refreshing. To me, they were mild ingredients that made for a fresh cleanse of the face at the end of the day without leaving any residue.
Kate Somerville is a skin care line with the usual suspects in its lineup such as moisturizers and cleansers. I don’t think they are doing anything extraordinary for skin (yet) at Kate Somerville, but it’s a bargain for the price.
