When you get the chance to eat at a bunch of food trucks while enjoying unlimited alcohol on an aircraft carrier, you go for it. The Village Voice’s Choice Streets event took place on Wednesday, May 7, and over 20 food trucks were lined up on the Intrepid serving lines of customers as the sun went down. A lot of great food was gobbled down by high-spirited attendees before the night was over. Here are some highlights:

  1. The Thai Green Curry over Jasmine Rice from Big D’s Grub Truck was super-spicy and oh-so-yummy. Dennis, the owner, brings his diverse culinary influences from Queens to his menu of tacos, grinders and rice plates. The truck has several Manhattan locations it rotates between including the Financial District and Midtown West.
  2. The alcoholic Strawberry Fields Slush from Kelvin Natural Slush was a welcome sweet, cold treat. You can find the truck at Smorgasburg this summer, and the slushes are served at several hot spots in NYC including Berry Park in Brooklyn and Gansevoort Park Rooftop in Manhattan.
  3. The Korean Tacos from Korilla BBQ were great. The kimchi-bulgogi tacos they were serving were mild, but you can normally order spicier ones. This seems to be a well-known food truck, easily recognizable by the large tiger face and orange and black tiger stripes painted on it. You can find these trucks in Manhattan and DUMBO.
  4. The Rendang Chicken from Love Mamak was sweet and tender. This truck has Malaysian and Indian flavored food, and you can catch it at Smorgasburg this summer.
  5. The Chive and Pork Dumpling from Shanghai Sogo was tasty, and the chef was super-friendly and helpful. This truck serves Asian Tapas and Bubble Tea in Midtown for lunch and also makes it up to Columbia University to serve hungry college students.
