Releasing their fourth project, White Women, Canadian duo Chromeo proves that throwback funk and electro is still alive and screaming. Dave 1 and P-Thugg don’t seem to take themselves too seriously either. I mean producing music that gives way to good times doesn’t leave that door open when the two continually bring new sounds and grooves that are as funky as they are catchy.

Tracks in point: the pop-ish single “Jealous (I Ain’t With it),” a sort of in-your-face ode to that ’80s sound that influences the group, the disco-tinged “Come Alive” with singer-songwriter Toro Y Moi, and pretty much every other tune on the 12-track White Women, including “Over Your Shoulder,” “Hard to Say No,” “Old 45’s,” and “Somethingood.” One of my personal faves though is the mid-tempo “Lost On the Way Home” featuring Solange. It’s a perfect relationship tune for sweet female vocals.
