Beer, Bacon and Merrymaking @ Citifield, 4/24/15

Beer and Bacon Classic 002While the Mets were busy beating the Yankees 8-2 in the Bronx on Saturday, April 25, Citi Field was hosting over 4,500 Bacon and Beer loving guests to the evening session of the second annual Bacon and Beer Classic. The event featured sweet and savory bacon-inspired dishes from local restaurants and beer—thankfully, not bacon-flavored—from over 50 breweries.

Of course, there were lots of tasty brews on tap, including Fresh Slice, a tasty white IPA from Otter Creek, and Black & Tan, a porter/pilsner mashup from Mississippi Mud. There were also a lot of fruity beers being poured including crowd-pleasers like Strawberry Abita and Original Sin Apricot.

It appeared good times were had by all; VIP-access attendees were busy snapping pics down on the field level and popping in the dugouts for the ultimate photo op, while friendly revelers teasingly jeered every time a drinker in attendance committed the ultimate party foul of breaking their ceramic beer glass.

Industry experts were on hand for a judging contest, and the “Best Sweet Dish” was given to Pig Guy NYC (who could have also won for friendliest staff) with their gluttonous grilled bacon “s’more” drenched in semi-sweet chocolate on a stick.

Some foods probably weren’t everyone’s cup of tea (Bacon Maple Cotton Candy, I’m looking at you), but the pizza topped with crispy bacon from John’s of Time Square took home the “Best Use of Bacon” title and was perfect for soaking up the alcohol ingested during the evening before the security guards started cleaning out the lingering merrymakers.
