Singer/songwriter duo The Como Brothers Band’s new album, Imagination, presents six groovy commercial tracks. Opening with Andy Burton’s organ-led poppy “Good Enough For Me,” Matt Como sings the tune out of the park, while his brother Andrew provides not only good flick-a-flicka rhythm, but solid and restrained leading. The second tune, “Tell You I’m Fine” is even funkier, with a starker backing of instruments. An in-the-pocket snare, a vocal quick lyric delivery from Andrew Como and “oohs” in the background make this one really move. Again, we get Burton laying heavy on his organ on “Make My Heart Move” while Matt offers as pleasant of a lead vocal as you’re ever likely to hear here in poppy verses into almost Pablo Cruise/Firefall/mid-70’s AOR-like choruses – truly great songwriting again. “Imagination” is a torchy, piano rolling ballad with Andrew Como well up front asking for the love he needs the way he wants it, well before that love leads. A snare cymbals splash mini cover of Hendrix’ “Bold As Love” ends and while competently played and sung by Andrew, I would have preferred another original from the brothers as this is not as well-executed as the songs that preceded it.
