You may know him from playing the famous opening slide guitar on “Freebird” or as the only remaining original member of Lynyrd Skynyrd. You might also know Gary Rossington as one-half of the band Rossington, making killer rock-country music with his wife Dale. Their new release, Take It On Faith, is a solid 12-song collection, seeing this husband-and-wife team working at the top of their form. The album’s title track is the obvious kick-off single, with Gary’s slide work leading the way. Dale lends her slight, sandpapery-strong pipes to torchy numbers like “I Should’ve Known,” gospel reads like “Light A Candle,” and the sexy strut of catching her man at what he shouldn’t have been doin’ on “Something Fishy.” The fun “Dance While You’re Cookin’” shows off her mature pop-worn sensibilities as she rolls around the sing-a-long lyrics and beat. “Cookin'” is what Mr. And Mrs. R. get up to well on Take It On Faith. This is about as solid a rock-country mix of tunes as you’re going to hear. Gary and Dale are both in fine form, tackling mature subject matters and Gary getting to man the ship here with his signature playing. The players behind the pair are about as lock-step in-sync as you can hope to find, with Dale and Gary blending into the mix enough that their contributions are not overplayed and proceedings truly feel like a band effort.
