On a cold Tuesday night, Brooklyn Bowl played host to some hot holiday cheer in the form of JD McPherson who headlined, bringing authentic and catchy rockabilly music. But it was Eddie Angel’s Guitar Party that got the crowd ready to rock. While the theme of the night was Christmas music, with Eddie’s drummer, guitarist and bassist dressed as Santa’s little helpers, it was Eddie Angel, wearing a luchador mask that brought some incredible surf guitar sounds that was the highlight. Playing a variety of Christmas songs and some of his own like “Itchy Chicken” which saw him tapping and banging on his guitar to help the song stop and go, Eddie and his band impressed everyone with a variety of solo’s from some great musicians who were having a lot of fun.

JD McPherson took the stage with his band in support of their new Christmas album Socks, and from beginning to end he had the crowd singing and dancing. Playing some tracks off the new holiday album and his hits like “North Side Gal” and “Head Over Heels,” the band did not disappoint bringing the beauty and authenticity that only JD McPherson can bring. High points include the new material including the title track “Socks” about a kid getting, well . . . socks as a gift for the holidays, just what any kid wants! Also “Claus vs Claus” saw JD bring British singer Lucie Silvas on stage for a duet that was both surprising to see and great to hear that his new material is on par to be future holiday hits.
