First of all, Joe’s Pup is a stellar place to attend a concert or a small intimate Q&A/listening party, which this was. Lodge’s new album 10,000 Light Years Ago (his first solo album in 38 years!) is a lush 8-song achievement. It features some signature Moody Blue-isms (as well as Lodge bringing back two old Moody’s to play on the stand-out tune “Simply Magic” a song about his grandson) as well as country-influenced numbers, wrenching love ballads and some fiddle-stomping fun. All around this is a collection of songs that Lodge assured us are about his life, but not so much a looking backward as looking into the future.
