Releasing their eponymous debut on the DFA label, Brooklyn-based duo Holy Ghost! smartly blends electro, pop, new wave, and disco melodies that make you dig them–even though you don’t want to.

Mostly known as remixers and producers for a few well-known artists (Moby, Cut Copy, and LCD Soundsystem), Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel have had only one big hit, the hook-laden “Hold On” from 2007 (which also appeared on the soundtrack to the HBO original series How To Make It In America in 2010). Otherwise, the duo has most just been touring, performing, and reworking tunes for other people.

Nevertheless the guys remind me of a less funkafied Chromeo with more head-nodding beats than dancing-on-the-floor type of vibe. I can’t truly fault them though, when their name  comes from the uber-funk track by The Bar-Kays. Either way, recommended spins include “Do It Again,” “Say My Name,” and “Static On The Wire.”
